Beveridge, Albert Jeremiah

Политический деятель, юрист, историк. В 1887 был принят в коллегию адвокатов и практиковал в Индианаполисе (1887-99). В 1899-1911 - член Сената США [Senate, U.S.] от штата Индиана, республиканец. Поддерживал политику Т. Рузвельта [Roosevelt, Theodore (Teddy)]. Выступал против принятия закона о тарифах Пейна-Олдрича [Payne-Aldrich Tariff Act] (1909), по которому были введены правила свободной торговли в отношении Филиппин. В 1910 проиграл на выборах. В 1912 был в числе создателей Прогрессивной партии [Progressive Party] и выставлял кандидатуру на пост губернатора штата Индиана от этой партии, но потерпел поражение. После этих событий посвятил себя историческим исследованиям. Особенно известны написанные Бевериджем биографии Дж. Маршалла [Marshall, John] (4 тт., 1916-19) и А. Линкольна [Lincoln, Abraham] (не окончена; 2 тт., 1928).
